Dr Sharla and her colleague did an incredible job of making both my boys feel safe, happy and relaxed

We first heard about Dr Sharla at The Lawrence House when she was recommended to us by another parent at a support group for children with autism (suspected and diagnosed) and other disabilities. We had asked about other families experiences of obtaining a private diagnosis after becoming frustrated at the length of the waiting list for assessment with the local Neurodevelopmental team. We had two children on that waiting list, with our eldest child having been on the list for over two years and our second a year behind him on the list. We just needed answers for ourselves and our children so we decided to contact Dr Sharla. From the outset, Dr Sharla was so professional, knowledgeable and friendly. She completely put us at ease and explained the whole process clearly. She met with us, observed our eldest son at school, consulted reports and also other professionals involved in his care. Unfortunately the Covid-19 pandemic then arose which brought everything to a halt. During this time Dr Sharla kept in contact with us and continued to support and update us about when it would be safe to continue. As soon as it was safe to resume the assessments, Dr Sharla and her colleague did an incredible job of making both my boys feel safe, happy and relaxed. Normally my eldest son is very shy and finds it hard to talk to people he doesn’t know but he was talking to Dr Sharla like an old friend. Due to the pandemic, an observation at school for my younger son was not possible but again this wasn’t an issue as she had spoken to his class teacher and the school SenCo. We had a further feedback meeting where the outcome of each assessment was explained in full to both ourselves and our children. We had lots of time to ask any questions and she was fantastic and incredibly patient at explaining the diagnosis to each child in a way they understood. The report that was produced was very detailed but easy to understand and to a high standard. The assessments were completed to NICE guidelines. We would very highly recommend Dr Sharla at The Lawrence House to anyone and wish we had found her sooner!
